Designed for a private client, this new single-storey detached home sits discreetly within the landscaped grounds of a Grade II listed farmhouse. The design draws inspiration from the surrounding agricultural context, adopting a contemporary interpretation of traditional rural forms and materials to create a sympathetic yet distinctive addition to the site.
Careful attention has been given to siting, scale, and landscape integration. The building nestles into the terrain, with planting, boundary treatments, and natural flint walls used to soften its presence and maintain key views to the historic farmhouse. The architecture takes cues from local farmstead typologies, expressed through a simple pitched roof, robust detailing, and a restrained palette of natural materials that reflect the character of its setting.
The dwelling has been designed with a strong environmental ethos. High levels of insulation, airtight construction, and renewable technologies contribute to exceptional energy performance and reduced operational carbon. Passive solar design principles, natural ventilation, and considered window placement ensure comfortable living spaces throughout the year while minimising energy demand.
Sustainability extends beyond energy efficiency to include locally sourced materials, biodiversity-enhancing landscaping, and long-term durability in design and construction. The result is a highly energy-efficient and sustainable home that harmonises with its rural surroundings while providing a modern, comfortable, and future-proof dwelling for its occupants.
