Our client owned a double garage to the rear of 123 Alex Wood Road for a number of years and saw the potential for the site to be converted into a simple but modern single occupancy dwelling for a young professional in the heart of the City. The tight constraints of the site were a challenge for our team but the application was approved under delegated powers.

In terms of scale, the addition of the mono-pitched half story was key to accommodate the first floor living area. The design required considerable consideration of neighbouring amenity areas and shadow study analysis was undertaken to ensure there was be no adverse impact. The principal elevation will be clad in angled flat panelled zinc to mimic the hung tiles of neighbouring properties. The material pallete has been chosen to reflect those found in the area but with a modern interpretation.

This small and sustainable project will turn a disused garage in a charming dwelling, through the use innovative design and client imagination.
